Detailed chronology

12 Aug 2025

Christian Nahaboo described a collateral-backed route and said lenders available to Balkan typically provided 90% LTV credit facilities at stated rates.

2–9 Oct

Balkan invoiced USD 75,630 as a booking fee; Kopa sent it and Balkan acknowledged receipt.

20–23 Oct

Kopa entered an escrow arrangement for GBP 442,400. The escrow agent confirmed receipt.

20 Oct–14 Nov

Oscar Abeti of BCP International Law Firm / Cuatro Puertos Abogados in Marbella circulated the escrow agreement, confirmed receipt of Kopa’s payment into the escrow account, corresponded on the hard-copy procedure and delivered the original guarantee at the Marbella notarial meeting.

28 Oct

Balkan said a SWIFT pre-advice had been transmitted through Asia Nexus and sought release of the first 30% tranche.

29 Oct

Kopa reported in writing that Barclays’ trade team could find no trace of messages dated 14 or 28 October. Balkan supplied an ACK-style PDF.

30 Oct

Kopa relayed further Barclays information about message handling and BICs; the original SWIFT path was not completed.

31 Oct–5 Nov

Balkan sent documents switching the transaction to hard-copy delivery. Nahaboo asked Kopa to confirm execution “to speed up”; only after confirmation did he say issuance authorisation would proceed.

11 Nov

Kopa told Nahaboo that Barclays’ SWIFT team had said the supplied document was not genuine. Nahaboo rejected that suggestion and said: “It’s in the SWIFT.”

12–13 Nov

Balkan required Kopa to execute and have certified a Collateral Receipt and Acceptance stating that Balkan had fully performed. The final 70% invoice was issued.

19 Nov

Millennium rejected drawdown because the hard-copy guarantee was not held by a designated Recipient Bank. Nahaboo initially described bank custody as normal and “nothing complicated.”

20 Nov

Kopa provided a Barclays Trade Operations email saying that paper-document custody was not a service it provided, and proposed several alternatives.

25 Nov

Millennium’s facility was terminated after the conditions precedent were not met in time. No loan proceeds were disbursed.

Date to be confirmed

Kopa reports that the bank used by Millennium confirmed Millennium held accounts there, but the person spoken to expressed the view that it was unlikely Millennium could satisfy transactions worth millions. This is Kopa’s account of a telephone conversation, not a formal bank finding.

Dec 2025–Aug 2026

Nahaboo repeatedly discussed replacement creditors and imminent calls or progress. From 1 Dec onward, the export contains 1,364 Kopa entries; 251 calls were marked “No answer” by 16 May. No replacement facility funded.

8 Jan–7 Apr 2026

Kopa raised what the Nevis bank had offered with Nahaboo in January. On 7 April Nahaboo expressly recalled that custody had been agreed and reproduced a written message stating that HR Bank was prepared to accept custody through AAA Escrow. The proposed arrangement carried a substantial fee and had taken weeks to obtain.

Apr–2 Jul 2026

Nahaboo requested the custody confirmation and further legal details, said he was trying to bring Millennium back, discussed the Hamilton/AAA structure and eventually drafted Kopa’s renewed approach to Millennium. No renewed facility was issued and no loan was funded.

27 Mar–16 May 2026

After the fees had been paid and the original facility had failed, the WhatsApp log records 52 unanswered voice calls and one unanswered video call from Kopa to Nahaboo, with no completed call logged during that period. On 17 May Kopa also recorded that more than 60 promised callbacks had not occurred.

17 May 2026

Kopa repeatedly escalated directly to Balkan CEO Alexandru D. Bodislav through available email and social channels, describing the family-home borrowing, more than £500,000 exposure, severe hardship, more than 65 unsuccessful lender approaches, unfulfilled creditor questions and prolonged communication failures. Bodislav replied that he would inquire with Nahaboo; after doing so, he said Nahaboo reported that “on the company’s behalf all elements are in line” and would continue supporting Kopa’s inquiries. Kopa answered with a further example of a missed promised call and offered the full WhatsApp record; Bodislav did not reply again.

11 Aug 2026

Balkan’s position was that it fully performed by delivering the demand guarantee and that Kopa alone failed Millennium’s conditions.
